[idefix] end
[jdooda] ok me now, i suppose
[idefix] y
[jdooda] im john, working with ascii/imc-nl, hoping to get
[jdooda] some advice on setting up this code for imminent imc-nl launch
[jdooda] eof
[mh] me
[idefix] y
--- idefix sets modes [#mir +o saloxin]
[mh] I´m mh. on berlin. new to working with imc.de for ~ a month + half or so. I´m hacking on Mir for fun. normally I call Montreal home
[idefix] end
[idefix] ?
[mh] sorry
[monk] I´m josh. I´ve been traveling for two months. I´m about to settle some where and I want to help. on the Mir code but I haven´t had a chance to get elbows deep into it yet
[monk] end
[idefix] where do you want to settle?
[rabble] [intro]I´m rabble/evan, i´ve been doing lots of imc-tech work as well as working on protest.net. I wrote the features.cgi system for active as well as a bunch of other random indymedia crap. Right now i´m in Amsterdam, but i travel around from action to action doing indymedia tech support. i call cabin.protest.net in northern california home. I mostly code in perl, although a was employed as a java programmer agaisnt my will for 6 months last year. :) I vol
[monk] I don´t know yet. Some in Europe
[idefix] end?
[rabble] :) that´s what the [/intro] tag means :)
[idefix] rhindes?
* rhindes has started coding on mir 2 years ago. currently converting pre-pre-mir version, wich runs under www.nadir.org.
[rhindes] end
[saloxin] i´m nicholas. I do computers on location, and sysadmin stuff on machines here in amsterdam. and ascii of course =) We are trying to get mir on indymedia.nl, without much success. EOF
[tom] i am thomas from nadir, hamburg. i am not a programmer (although i did some useless xslt-stuff for mir v0.1). i could translate some documentation to english, if there are some special wishes. end
[Zapata] I´m Max The Netherlands. It´s my ambition to join the indymedia.nl tech team in their efforts.
[idefix] ok agenda?
[mh] agenda?
[Zapata] In my ´normal life´ I work as a software developer
[Zapata] eof
[idefix] there are some points to discuss
[idefix] 1.) the roadmap
[idefix] 2.) who does what
[idefix] 3.) heliping nl
[idefix] 4.) perhaps euroserver
[idefix] more?
[mh] everyone see the TODO at mir.indymedia.de/2001/09/39.shtml
[saloxin] ack
[anarchriz] k
[jdooda] test
* idefix is logging this session
* jdooda realizes my alt-key doesn´t do what it is supposed to
[rhindes] ok, lets start
[idefix] perhaps we should tall some about whta has be done since the last meeting
--] patrick ( nospam@ppp-65-90-245-120.mclass.broadwing.net) has joined #mir
--- idefix sets modes [#mir +o patrick]
[idefix] rhindes or mh?
[anarchriz] yeah...
[idefix] or should i?
[rhindes] mh or idfx :) ?
[mh] well I´m heavily working on the media upload bits
--- rhindes has changed the topic to: what has been done over the last two weeks
[idefix] we have imporved lots of things with the configuration
[idefix] we have implemented the multifile-upload
[mh] it ~70% done. that part is checked in. it´s some people can see what I´m i´m up to. it´ll get cleaned up and the MirMedia interface will get "tweaked" a little
[mh] s/some/so
[idefix] then we have startet to create a servlet to edit the templates online
[idefix] matthias implements a dupe-protection for postings and comments
[mh] I also implemented I tiny feature: allow one to choose topic directly at open posting time.
[idefix] the dupe thing is managed by a db-trigger
[idefix] we cleaned up the producer-templates
--] hipheks (~ sara@213-84-173-33.adsl.xs4all.nl) has joined #mir
--- idefix sets modes [#mir +o hipheks]
[rhindes] some documentation has been updated
[idefix] then there were many small bugfixxes
[rhindes] we´re translating the source code docs, whenever we pass by a method.
[idefix] fh is writing a feature to manage all these indymedia-links
[mh] I think kellan is looking into getting mir to work w/ tomcat 4
[idefix] the mir/openmir-servlet is multilingual
[idefix] and i am testing resin
[jdooda] resin?
[rhindes] basically, there are cvs updates every day
[idefix] its a opensourece servlet-container, but not free
[idefix] but seems to be the best
[idefix] and fastest
[saloxin] uhuh
[idefix]  http://www.caucho.org
--] po (~ po@cerebus.wirex.com) has joined #mir
[saloxin] freedom = good
[mh] as for the media upload, once the infrastructure is finished. we´ll need lot´s of MediaHandlers to be written :)
[mh] see source/media
--- idefix sets modes [#mir +o po]
[mh] oops. source/mir/media
[idefix] ok thats what we have done
[idefix] (not much but something)
[rhindes] goto #2?
[idefix] ok
[rhindes] or questions?
[idefix] no!
[idefix] first was has to be done.
--] pd ( nospam@ppp-65-90-245-120.mclass.broadwing.net) has joined #mir
[saloxin] server can´t find www.caucho.org
--- rhindes sets modes [#mir +o pd]
[anarchriz] yup
[-- patrick has quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
--- pd is now known as patrick
[Zapata] www.caucho.com
[idefix] (soory:  http://www.caucho.com)
[anarchriz] heh...
[mh] Media handling needs finishing (upload and storage per se is done). basically we need a ProducerMedia and to tweak the MirMedia interface
[rhindes] A translation of the templates to dutch would be nice
[idefix] the mutlilingual production of the website has to be done
[saloxin] english = international?
[idefix] ?
[mh] also need some standard entries for the media_type table (BTW. this needs to be populated before media handling will work)
[saloxin] rhindes: translating to dutch = waste of time maybe?
[rhindes] make a better design of mir.indymedia.de
[idefix] (grrrr.)
[idefix] making a better design of the templates
[idefix] (internal servlets)
[mh] I can eventually do french translation
[idefix] cool
[rhindes] saloxin, i guess it´s not a waste of time..
[idefix] perhaps we find some guys to translate to castellano
[mh] think quebec. or belgium or switzerland
[idefix] or afrika
[tom] or france
[Zapata] guadeloupe, antigua, st martin
[Zapata] etc etc
[anarchriz] is there somewhere an general intro/overview to all this stuff (internal workings)?... cuz i can get a hold of it... really like to understand
[mh] I don´t mean for the french but of possible IMC sites that _need_ to be bilingual.
[Zapata] I think it would be a great idea if every IMC site supported english
[rhindes] i´m starting to write something about the code organization
[Zapata] but also the native language
[mh] Zapata: with Mir they automatically do!
[idefix] Zapata: thats what i think too
[Zapata] that´s kool :-)
[idefix] mh: thats not 100% ture
[idefix] mh: thats not 100% true
[idefix] the multilanguual navigation through the produced pages is not done yet
--] ha (~ ha@brazil.indymedia.de) has joined #mir
--- idefix sets modes [#mir +o ha]
--- rhindes sets modes [#mir +o ha]
[ha] hi
[mh] well I mean Mir is/will be multilingual by default. and alot of temoplates are already in english. of course site specific content is something else..
[anarchriz] rhindes: would be cool... cuz now i can only do some testing stuff for the site i guess
[idefix] only the multilingal thing in Mir/OpenMir
[anarchriz] heya ha
[idefix] hi ha
--- rhindes has changed the topic to: who does what...
[anarchriz] [idefix] hi ha [[ lol
[ha] ha ha :)
[anarchriz] :)))
[idefix] ok, for me i must say that i have not very much time for coding the next weeks (just startet a new job)
[idefix] i will bring the templateeditor to an end and will help with bugfixxing
[idefix] on mulitmedia-upload
[mh] a propos documentation: is everyone familiar with the doc at java.sun.com/docs ?
[mh] I have lot´s of time for the moment. [for media handling]
[Zapata] now I am :-)
[rhindes] is anyone here interested in doing some of the above?
* saloxin is still trying to figure out how it works
[mh] also, if your offline, most java sdk´s come with a src.jar :)
[Zapata] I think we dutch people have enough to do coming 3 weeks
[mh] (a .jar is basically a .zip file)
[rhindes] zapata, ok.
[rhindes] may be i should explain the code-structure after this meeting?
[Zapata] but after that, I am game
[idefix] perhhaps we should resolve your probs.
[idefix] rhindes this would be very cool
[rhindes] okay. next topic? (dutch imc)
[anarchriz] rhindes: would be cool.. but dunno how long ill be hanging around here
[jdooda] i would love to have the code structure explained
[jdooda] !!!
[saloxin] we could use a login to a live server - too see how it should work.
[rhindes] jap, i´m writing it down anyway.
* anarchriz gettin a soda
[Zapata] if you write it down you´d make me very happy :-)
[idefix] saloxin sure
[idefix] try  http://mir.indymedia.org/mir/
[idefix] login: redaktion
[rhindes] i guess it would be good to have the code at hand, has anyone interested in the code has already checked it out?
[idefix] passwd: indymedia
[jdooda] im assuming all above chnages are only in cvs
[saloxin] not the last week - been in the mud with wavelan antennas on my head
* anarchriz is back
[jdooda] looked at the code maybe two weeks ago
[jdooda] couldn´t get past config stages
[mh] jdooda: what config problems did you have?
[jdooda] perhaps new config-stuff addresses these difficulties
--] harirama (~ harirama@node16357.a2000.nl) has joined #mir
--- rhindes has changed the topic to: config problems / dutch imc
[jdooda] couldn´t figure out how to get config.properties to reload
[saloxin] login = a ssh login to a working machine...
--- rhindes sets modes [#mir +o harirama]
[-- hipheks has quit (off to hunt wild pasta)
[rhindes] jdooda: only via tomcat restart by now
[jdooda] ok. that makes sense
[rhindes] could someone summarize the problems with dutch imc?
[rhindes] and the status / roadmap ?
[jdooda] 1) many people tried installing mir, noone succeeded.
[mh] one thing not to forget, is that for the moment alot of code changes require updates to the DB structure, templates or config.properties file. so always check the "-dist" version of those when upgrading.
[saloxin] we are giving it another go tonight, so if anyone hangs out here they might help =)
[jdooda] no sleep till indymedia.nl!!
[rhindes] saloxin: sure!
[anarchriz] lol
[saloxin] but we can´t start untill 19.00 - when we can kick out the guests from ascii...
[rhindes] saloxin: ok for me.
[jdooda] also, what is the correct procedure for changing source code and getting those changes to go live-
[rhindes] jdooda: first cvs update, then ./build.sh in the home of mir
[jdooda] say i update a file with a new cvs version. which script do i use(if any) to get that javaced.....ok coool. makes sense.
[jdooda] and tomcat 4 does *not* currently work?
[rhindes] jdooda: not sure.
[idefix] it should
--- rhindes sets modes [#mir +b *!*@*.a2000.nl]
[rhindes] ah! sorry
[idefix] but we are using tomcat 3.2.3
[rhindes] how do i revert that ... :(
[anarchriz] -b
[anarchriz] ?
[rhindes] can someone revert the ban please!
--- anarchriz sets modes [#mir -b *!*@*.a2000.nl]
* anarchriz did /mode #mir -b *!*@*.a2000.nl
[rhindes] huh thanks, sorry harirama, been clicking on the wrong spot.
[harirama] never mind...
--] psin ( psinpsycle@dsl-main-205-233-15-i165-cgy.nucleus.com) has joined #mir
[mh] jdooda: a propos changing source code. make sure to update your templates from templates-dist as well and sometimes new config options appear too.
--- rhindes sets modes [#mir +o psin]
[jdooda] ok.
[rhindes] but we should be having a stable branch 1.0 very soon..
[mh] jdooda: can you continue give us any more details as to what the problems you encountered were.
[jdooda] that´s about as far as both me and saloxin got...
[saloxin] we are taking 1 hour break. get some fresh air and look for jolt
[jdooda] there´s another geek(etienne) who got a little farther, but we haven´t had time to compare notes
[mh] ok.
[psin] fresh air is always good :)
[saloxin] reconvene in 1 hour? same place
[-- jdooda has quit (Leaving)
[Zapata] In that case I´m on my way to ASCII
* anarchriz thinks hes goin home then... cya later all ppl ...
[saloxin] we need to kick out the potsmoking ascii users
[mh] anymore topics for meeting?
[anarchriz] rhindes: where r u wrinting that stuff down on code structure?
[Zapata] nl people, see you real soon...
[anarchriz] writing
[idefix] ok, after installing mir on imc-nl the nl-ppl stariting coding the rest of all?
[anarchriz] cya zap!
[saloxin] hehehe
[Zapata] and I´m very interested in what you write
[rhindes] in /doc/CODESTRUCTURE in the cvs
[Zapata] cy´all
[saloxin] hm well - lets get it working first
[-- Zapata has quit ()
[idefix] saloxin
[anarchriz] rhindes: ok... thanx... cya all later!
[rhindes] cya
[idefix] do we have a login to do box you are installin gthe code?
[-- anarchriz has quit ()
[saloxin] can be arranged
[idefix] do we have a login to the box you are installin the code?
[idefix] cool
[rhindes] cool
[idefix] perhaps this makes things easier
[saloxin] tonight?
[rhindes] ok, in one hour..
[mh] nod.
[idefix] one login is enough
[saloxin] of course =)
[mh] 1 stunde.
[monk] c ya
